Soul Wars was the book made to help everyone catch up to the last major event in the timeline before Broken Realms, so its helpful to get started. But source booke are expensive so I'd instead suggest the novels "Soul Wars", "City of Secrets", and "Heart of Winter".
Right now the best way to get a crash course in the lore is the "Soulbound Core Book", "Second Edition Corebook", and the Broken Realms: Morathi campaign. You could even possibly claim that Idoneth deepkin are similar to DE in a number of ways, they behave alot like dark elder in 40k do and raid villages of order for quite literally a living.
